Twin Stick Strafe Action

Twin Stick Strafe Action

This mod allows the player to use the right thumbstick on a controller in a more intuitive manner to control the direction the player is facing. This allows you to move freely (strafe) while using tools in your specified direction.

When using tools you normally use your tools in the direction of your movement. But it is a bit cumbersome to strafe. That is, to perform actions in a direction different than your moving direction, for example walk in a straight line and water the plants to your left.

The only way to strafe (in vanilla) is to place the mouse cursor near your character in the direction you want to do your actions. This is not ideal because you need precise cursor movements to simply look in a direction.

With this mod the right thumbstick directly controls the direction the player is facing. This allows you to move freely (strafe) while using tools in your specified direction. Most of the tasks done involving tools or laying out objects are more natural to perform with this input mode.

Laying out a line of fences become satisfyingly simple. Just run straight and place the fences behind you or to your side, by tilting the right thumbstick in the appropriate direction. This works similarly well for other tasks like tilling or watering your fields (specially with lower level tools). Even in melee combat it’s useful to have precise and quick control over the direction of your strikes. Slingshots do not yet work with this setup (maybe in a future release?).

Since your action and tool buttons are normally on the right of your controller, a claw grip might be a useful way of holding your controller in this mode.
